Reverend Gunthorpe was the found and first spiritual leader of the Congregation of St. Augustine. He was ordained as Deacon on May 18, 1910 and as Priest on June 17, 1914, serving the congregation until his death in 1916. In 1976, the congregation of St. Augustine’s and Christ Church Yonkers consolidated to form Holy Cross Episcopal Church, Yonkers. He also founded St. Simon the Cyrenian in New Rochelle in 1913.
