Chief Justice John Jay

John Jay, Trinity church warden from 1785 to 1790, who became the first chief justice of the Supreme Court and Governor of New York, was President and founding member of the New York State Society for promoting the Manumission of Slaves.  He is known  as an American statesman, patriot, diplomat, one of the founding fathers of the United States, negotiator and signatory of the Treaty of Paris of 1783.
